South India - States- Disaster Watch

The people of the Indian subcontinent know from experience that the natural nemesis of 'civilised' life are wind, water, and tectonic forces.
The disaster cycle can be differentiated into five main phases:
- The warning phase, indicating the possibility of a catastrophe, and the threat period
- The impact phase
- The emergency phase when rescue, treatment, and salvage activities commence
- The rehabilitation phase when essential services are provided temporarily
- The reconstruction phase when return to normalcy is achieved
The impact on the affected community depends on its health and socio-economic condition. This skews disaster mathematics: global statistics indicate a significantly higher frequency of natural disasters in developing countries relative to the industrialised world.
