Geographical Coverage :
Geographical Coverage: Pan India presence - Strong footing in Southern States, especially Tamil Nadu
Development of Humane Action (DHAN) Foundation, a professional development organisation, founded in 1997. Its mission is: "Building Institutions for development innovations and upscaling for impacting livelihoods to enable poor
communities”.
The Foundation has been promoted with the objective of bringing highly motivated and educated young women and men to the development sector. They work on bringing out new innovations in rural development and for up scaling
development interventions to eradicate poverty in backward areas of the country. The Foundation works towards bringing significant changes in the livelihoods of the poor through innovations in themes and institutions.
The broad purposes for which it stands are:
- Mothering of Development Innovations: The institution aims to promote and nurture new ideas on different development themes, which have larger potential to address the livelihoods and development of the poor in a region viz., Microfinance, Small Scale Water bodies, Rainfed farming, Development Management Education, Information Technology for the Poor, Working with Panchayats. Senior colleagues anchor the new themes and work on it for a substantial period of time.
- Promoting Institutions to reach scale: Exclusive thematic institutions are being promoted to undertake development work with a sub-sectoral focus. The primary role of these institutions is promotional to ensure that
benefits reach a large number of poor with quality.
- Human Resource Development: The institution would bring young professionals into the development sector and provide them an opportunity to practice and develop relevant knowledge, attitudes and
skills to work long term in the development sector. Back to TopGeographical Coverage: Anbu Illam works in three Districts, namely, Chennai, Kancheepuram and Thiruvallur.
Anbu Illam was established on May 24, 1985, at Mannady, Chennai. It is registered under Tamilnadu Registration Act, the Vision of Anbu Illam, a ‘Home of Love’. It aims to empower the Young at Risk and create a just and humane society by joining hands with socially responsible individuals and groups. The Mission is to accompany the Young at Risk in their search and struggle for dignity. Presently it has 5 shelter homes with more than 250 children at risk under it
care.
Activities
1. For Street Children
• Shelter Homes for street children and working children in five locations.
• Providing food, clothes, medicine, shelter, education materials and most of all love and care
• Home Placement: Motivate and counsel the children to go back to their parents if they are willing to go back and parents are ready to accept them
2. For Working Children
• Non-formal Education (NFE) aimed at rehabilitating them into the formal schools. There are 228 Non-formal Education Centres in 9 locations.
• Vocational training for those children who are unable to pursue regular education
